Wiki So Far

Although I have not yet added information to the class wiki, I plan on expanding the economics page. One of the important aspect in understanding the economy is also understanding how money works. I plan add a Finance section on wiki and contribute to helping some people understand basic valuation to money.

Next New

I feel like one of the next new things that will be introduced in digital technology is a cellphone that does not need the extra purchase of headphones. This phone will be built with wireless headphone build in with a space the way that Samsung has a stylus space for the phone. With the fact that every year the size of phones are increasing, at some point the big enough phone will be able to have space to hold two small buds that goes into the ear. There will be Bluetooth technology used for connectivity, along with the phone having a charging station in the holding area for the phone. Although there has not been any stories in the news, I feel like as our new media evolves - a phone with these features will start to be tested and introduced to the publish.

P2P

In the beginning parts of the introduction to internet and network sharing, file sharing became somethings that was very valuable for a lot of different companies. File sharing is the practice of transmitting files from one computer to another over a network such as the internet. According to

Wendy Kaufman, although this was a big advancement many people did not know how much to trust files that were shared from people they do not know. This was one of the reason why Person-to-Person (P2P)  transfers was a great addition to file transferring. Although they are similar, one of the biggest advantages was the fact that people are able to share files and software to other connected computers on a P2P network. The privacy and ability to make sure information does not fall into the wrong hands is a big bonus because it makes it easier to avoid cyber security issues. One example of of a P2P network that is globally recognized is BitTorrent. Although it is not safe, Torrents are considered to be on a P2P netwrok because of the fact that many computers are connect under the software platform, and files are being shares from one source to another.

Privacy

Privacy and Confidentiality has caused many issues in the past months on Social media sites. The fact that many sites try to hide their privacy data in fine print, makes a lot of the users not pay attention to it. There has been a few cases with LinkedIn, Facebook, and Google giving out their user information with out them even knowing. This is a major issue because of the fact that data we are posting, that we think is protected, is actually being sent around to other companies for their use.
It seem to us the products that we are looking for suddenly popping up on Google ads, is a coincidence. But it actually isn't, it was proved that the search engine gathers information based on profile usage and keywords that have been used before on your computer. Facebook has been exposed to taking the likes and searches of their users, and giving information to other companies where they can target you with the product they think that you would like. Although there are some benefits of these companies being able to help you, the fact that your private information is being given out without permission is unacceptable.

Advice

Being a new hire at Baruch College I already see that there are many improvement that can be made to make the college a bit better. One of the first suggestions that I have are to get the students and staff on a more engaged level. Using different social apps such as Facebook o other Google apps can be a way that students and staff connect easier. Being able to get feedback on a quick note, can be done by creating an online blog or wall where students and professors can all ask question and give feedback, along with being able to promote school events. Using different Internet-Based platforms such as Google creates a community with a variety of tools, where the education is extended beyond the classroom and work can be done on projects simultaneously. New media and the advancement of digital technologies can bring staff developments to different levels, because of the ability to share different resources and ideas with colleagues. Being able to work with different apps mainly Google, allows people to get comfortable with working with others through technology even without being the presence of each other. Baruch will be able to stand out to students and staff from other schools because of the fact that everyone in this generation is moving towards more digital technologies. Students will be attracted by the new uses of digital media because of the drive and new learning experienced they have access to.

Creativity and New Media

Earlier this semester I was one of the GMAT Ambassadors assisting on the managing the Instagram page. One of the pictures that was posted was an example of a GMAT question that is similar to ones that are on the actual exam. When posted many people got into the comments and would ask questions. One person writing what they thought the answer was, opened up people up to asking how they got that answer, along with what they though their answer was. This is important to creativity because of how much information can be accessed between individuals digitally, so that they can use this information to to gain insights of others. 

Creativity

Our advancements in digital media has taken us to different creative worlds that helps people get their ideas out to eat other and build on them. The internet has fostered a new place of creation for a lot of people across the world because of their ability to express their arts and also get feedback on what others think (Bell). Because of our new media, we are now able to speed up processes and possibilities along with automating parts of our creativity. The biggest reason for why new media complements creativity is because it transforms immediate work to the audience in a digital way where they come up with their own perceptions. The collaboration in new media is very important to the fostering of creativity because of how people able to share and help on different ideas at any given time.
